Your Neighbors in Valrico

Morningstar Electric LLC is a family-owned residential electrician run by Ken and Tammy Morningstar. We started in Brandon and are now based in Lithia, so Valrico sits right between our old home and our new one. Licensed electrical contractor, License EC13005732.

• Valrico began as a farming settlement called Long Pond in the 1800s.

• Today it mixes older houses near SR 60 and Valrico Road with Buckhorn, River Hills and newer subdivisions.

• Panel upgrades, whole-home surge protectors, generator hookups and updated outlets in older homes.

• A fix for a breaker that keeps tripping. We treat your home like our own.

Emergency and Utility Contacts

  • Emergency: 911

  • Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (non-emergency, 24/7): (813) 247-8200.

  • Valrico is unincorporated, so the Sheriff’s Office handles law enforcement here.

  • Electric (TECO / Tampa Electric), outages and downed lines: (877) 588-1010.

  • For a downed or damaged line, call 911 first, then TECO.

  • Water and sewer (Hillsborough County Water Resources): (813) 307-1000.

  • Water Resources also takes after-hours and weekend emergencies.

  • Some older properties may be on a private well.

  • Hurricane alerts: sign up for HCFL Alert, Hillsborough County’s official notification system.

  • HCFL Alert sends hurricane, flood, severe weather and road closure alerts by phone, text or email.

  • Help with HCFL Alert signup: (813) 272-6602.

  • Look up your evacuation zone with the county’s Hurricane Evacuation Assessment Tool (HEAT).

  • Check the county’s Stay Safe page during a storm.

Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste

  • Valrico homes are served by Hillsborough County Solid Waste.

  • Collection days vary by street, so we will not guess yours.

  • Use the county’s “Find My Trash & Recycling Schedule” lookup and enter your address.

  • It shows your trash, recycling and yard waste days.

  • Set carts and yard waste out no earlier than 6 PM the night before.

  • Have them out no later than 6 AM on collection day.

  • Yard waste limit: 2 cubic yards a week (about twelve 30-gallon bags or cans).

  • The limit goes up to 3 cubic yards in February, March and April.

  • Keep each container under 50 pounds.

  • Cut limbs to less than 4 feet long and 6 inches across.

  • Questions: Hillsborough County Solid Waste at (813) 272-5680.

Storm and Electrical Safety Tips

  • Give older homes a checkup: they can have aging panels and ungrounded two-prong outlets.

  • Older wiring was never meant for today’s loads. A safety inspection can catch problems early.

  • Use generators safely: run portable generators outside, far from doors, windows and the garage.

  • Never plug a generator into a wall outlet.

  • A properly installed transfer switch or interlock keeps you and line workers safe.

  • Protect against summer lightning: our afternoon storms bring a lot of lightning.

  • A whole-home surge protector at the panel helps guard your electronics.

  • Add point-of-use protectors for TVs and computers.

  • Check for water: if water reaches outlets, your panel or appliances, keep the power off.

  • Have an electrician inspect before turning the power back on.

  • Know your zone: look up your address on HEAT.

  • Sign up for HCFL Alert before June, not when a storm is already in the Gulf.

  • Stay clear of downed lines. Treat every downed line as live.

Neighborhoods We Serve

  • Valrico runs from north of SR 60 down past Bloomingdale Avenue, and each part has its own mix of homes.

  • Here is where we work, grouped the way locals give directions.

  • The years are when each subdivision’s plat was recorded with Hillsborough County.

  • Most homes there are that age or a little newer.

North of SR 60, Off Valrico Road and Dover Road

  • Diamond Hill: platted in 2003 and 2004 off North Valrico Road.

  • Diamond Hill: homes are about 20 years old, a good time for a panel checkup, and a good fit for EV chargers.

  • Somerset: platted from 2000 to 2002 between SR 60 and Dover Road.

  • Somerset: surge protection and generator hookups are common requests.

  • Kings Mill: platted in 2004 and 2005 right by SR 60 and Dover Road. A good fit for EV chargers and added circuits.

Between SR 60 and Durant Road

  • Copper Ridge: platted from 1996 to 2001 off South Dover Road.

  • Copper Ridge: Original panels and breakers are reaching the age where a checkup makes sense.

Buckhorn, Near Durant Road and Lithia-Pinecrest Road

  • Buckhorn: the numbered Buckhorn sections were platted mostly in the mid to late 1980s.

  • Buckhorn: panel checkups, surge protection and generator hookups are popular here.

  • Buckhorn Preserve: platted from 2001 to 2004 along Durant Road. A good fit for surge protection and EV chargers.

South Valrico, Near Bloomingdale Avenue and Little Road

  • River Hills Country Club: platted from 1988 to 1999 around River Hills Country Club.

  • River Hills: panel checkups, surge protection and generator hookups are common requests.
