Electrician in Lithia, FL

Your Hometown Electrician in Lithia, Lithia Springs, the Bloomingdale Area, and Along the Alafia River

Morningstar Electric LLC is a family-owned residential electrician run by Ken and Tammy Morningstar. We started out in Brandon and moved to Lithia, the community we now call home. We help homeowners across Lithia proper, from the streets near Lithia Springs and the Bloomingdale area borders to the rural properties and acreage farther out along the Alafia River and Lithia-Pinecrest Road. We know this mix of homes well: newer builds, older ranch houses, barns and workshops, and homes on private wells that need power to keep the water running. Panel upgrades, whole-home surge protection, generator hookups, well pump circuits, outdoor and shop power, or a breaker that keeps tripping, we treat your home like our own. Licensed electrical contractor, License EC13005732. FishHawk neighbors, see our FishHawk page.

Emergency and Utility Contacts

Emergency: 911

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (non-emergency, 24/7): (813) 247-8200

Electric (TECO / Tampa Electric), outages and downed lines: (877) 588-1010. For a downed or damaged line, call 911 first, then TECO. Most Lithia and Bloomingdale area homes are on TECO.

Electric (Peace River Electric Cooperative), outages: (800) 282-3824. Some rural homes in southeastern Hillsborough County, including parts of the Lithia ZIP code, are served by this co-op. Check the name on your power bill to know which line to call.

Water and sewer (Hillsborough County Water Resources): (813) 307-1000, including after-hours and weekend emergencies. The Lithia Springs area, central Lithia, and the Bloomingdale area fall inside the county's water service area. Many rural Lithia homes farther south and east are outside it and run on private wells.

Hurricane and emergency alerts: Sign up for HCFL Alert, Hillsborough County's official notification system, to get hurricane, flood, severe weather, and road closure alerts by phone, text, or email. Help with signup: (813) 272-6602. Look up your evacuation zone with the county's Hurricane Evacuation Assessment Tool (HEAT), and check the county's Stay Safe page during a storm.

Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste

Most Lithia homes are served by Hillsborough County Solid Waste. Collection days vary by street, so we will not guess yours. Use the county's "Find My Trash & Recycling Schedule" lookup, enter your address, and it will show your trash, recycling, and yard waste days. Carts and yard waste go out no earlier than 6 PM the night before and no later than 6 AM on collection day.

For yard waste, the county's weekly limit is 2 cubic yards (about twelve 30-gallon bags or cans), raised to 3 cubic yards in February, March, and April. Keep each container under 50 pounds and cut limbs to less than 4 feet long and 6 inches across. Questions go to Hillsborough County Solid Waste at (813) 272-5680.

Storm and Electrical Safety Tips for Lithia Homes

Plan for your well pump. If your home is on a private well, a power outage also means no water. A properly sized generator with a transfer switch or interlock can keep the well pump, fridge, and a few lights running. We can help you figure out what you need.

Never backfeed. Run portable generators outside, far from doors, windows, and the garage. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet. It can send power back down the line and hurt you or a TECO or co-op line worker.

Protect against summer lightning. Our afternoon storms bring a lot of lightning. A whole-home surge protector at the panel, plus point-of-use protectors for TVs, computers, and pool equipment, helps guard your electronics.

Check barns, sheds, and workshops. Outbuildings often have old or undersized wiring and extension cords that became permanent. Have them checked, and use GFCI protection where there is water or damp ground.

Call 811 before you dig. Planning a fence, trenching for a shop feed, or setting posts? Call 811 or use Sunshine 811 first so buried lines get marked.

Know your zone and sign up early. Look up your address on HEAT and sign up for HCFL Alert before June, not when a storm is already in the Gulf.

Stay clear of downed lines. Treat every downed line as live.
